The Don Derby EPK

Don Derby Train Station

For Don Derby’s electronic press kit (EPK) we had two days to capture an live stage performance of over 14 songs with an eight piece band in front of a viewing audience.

There were several challenges with this production. One was to get close-up shots of the band without the camera crew interfering with or being visible to the live audience that would be watching the show. To accomplish this, we worked with the band before the show and had four high-definition cameras capturing multiple angles of the performance on stage with only a single run-through during the dress rehearsal.  This allowed us to focus on the audience and their reactions during the live performance without getting between those viewing and the stage.

Another challenge was to capture several various location interviews and simulated music video looks without going to the expense of shooting a music video.  We utilized a middle Tennessee classic car rental company’s remote and scenic location to do both of these efficiently and only a half-day of additional production.

The biggest challenge we faced on this production was matching the live performance video to the album audio tracks. The band did not play to the same tempo as the original album recordings. Thanks to the excellent editing tools and brilliant work of Mayfield Mastering, the original 24bit album tracks were seamlessly stretched to closely match the performance videos.

Don came to us with about two weeks notice of an artist showcase for music industry executives.
